Training & Education

Suicide prevention requires more than the efforts of one person, organization, or service system. Everyone has a role to play in creating communities where people feel seen, supported, and able to reach out for help. Building knowledge, confidence, and connections across communities helps ensure that more people are prepared to respond when someone is struggling.

Many people want to support others but may not know what to say, how to start a conversation about suicide, or where to connect someone for help. Training and networks help build the skills and relationships needed to respond with compassion, reduce stigma, and strengthen pathways to support.

At Roots of Hope, we believe that communities are stronger when people, organizations, and services work together. Through evidence-informed training, shared learning, and collaboration, we help increase suicide prevention capacity across sectors and create stronger networks of care.

When more people are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to recognize, ask, listen, and connect, communities become better prepared to support one another and foster hope.

Pillar Overview

Roots of Hope works with communities to build knowledge, skills, and confidence to support people experiencing thoughts of suicide and those impacted by suicide loss. Through training, education, and relationship-building, we help individuals and organizations develop the tools needed to respond with compassion and strengthen community connections.

safeTALK and ASIST Training We support evidence-informed suicide prevention training that helps people to recognize when someone may be thinking about suicide, have supportive conversations, and connect people to appropriate resources. By increasing access to training and reducing barriers to participation, we help more people develop the confidence to respond when it matters most.

Customized Workshops and Presentations Every community has unique strengths, needs, and experiences. We develop and delivers customized workshops and presentations that support suicide prevention literacy, reduce stigma, and address topics identified by communities and organizations.

Feather Carriers Life Promotion Program We have supported life promotion through the Feather Carriers program, which is grounded in Indigenous teachings, knowledge, and practices. This work recognizes that suicide prevention includes not only responding to crisis, but also nurturing the protective factors that help people find meaning, hope, and connection.
